Dogs Found Starving, Wounded; Owner Nowhere to be Found - WSAZ

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Seven starving dogs have been taken from the home of a man with a history of neglect.

It happened just after 6:00 p.m. Saturday night in the 300 block of Richmond Street.

Huntington Police tell WSAZ.com Robert Jarrett has been out of town for at least a week, but his dogs have been home without anyone to feed them.

Officers say when they got to the home a pit bull was running loose in the back yard, and it attacked them.

As they struggled with the dog they noticed several more caged. When they got closer, they saw the dogs were emaciated and had wounds from fighting each other.

Jarrett already has warrants out for his arrest for other cases of abuse, and officers say they tried to pull him over in late August, but he ran.

The dogs had been left at the home alone for up to two weeks, and neighbors tell police no one has been by to take care of them.

Neighbors also say Jarrett often stays in Columbus, Ohio for long periods of time.

Animal control has removed the dogs from the home.

Huntington Police say shelters often euthanize pit-bulls in situations like this; but they are working on finding a rescue group to help rehabilitate the dogs and find them good homes. They say at least two of the dogs are friendly.

Neighbors noticed this two weeks ago and didn't notify authorities? Come on! Where is human compassion? Even if you don't care for animals just common decency should prevail.
