Owner of dogs in feces-filled house surrenders - Canton Repository

A woman from whose home health department officials pulled 22 dogs on Tuesday turned herself in to authorities Friday night.

Rayne Colopy, 36, of 819 McGregor Ave. NW, was wanted on misdemeanor warrants charging her with animal cruelty, abandoning animals and keeping an excess of five or more dogs, Stark County Jail records said. She turned herself in to Stark County sheriff’s deputies at the jail at 9:50 p.m.

Stark County court records said her bond was set at $750, and that Canton Municipal Court Judge Mary Falvey issued a “no contact order with (the) animals in question.”

City Health Department and Stark County Humane Society workers trudged through ankle-deep layers of dog feces to remove the dogs from her home five days ago.

Mark Adams, the city’s environmental health director, called the scene “probably one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time.” He said the dogs had torn up the walls and doors “trying to scratch and eat anything.”
