At Serenity Ranch rehabilitation center in Alberta, Canada, Pacific Assistance Dogs (PADS) in training are assisting residents at the facility in becoming more open to the program.
"The dog can get the clients to start speaking about things," says Rick Kutzner, a counselor at Serenity Ranch. "It just seems to break down the wall sooner."
And not only are residents receiving benefits. The PADS in training are learning valuable socialization skills that they'll use when they graduate to aid those with hearing or mobility disabilities.
