Superdogs Save Women from Fire

Two women in Oregon have their pint-sized pooches to thank for alerting them to a late-night fire that consumed their homes.

Seventy-four-year-old Shirley Chase was awakened on the first floor by her Chihuahua Toby, and her daughter Darla was warned upstairs by her toy poodle Gizmo about the flames engulfing the home.

"He barked," she said. "I looked over to tell him to shut up, and I noticed it was kind of smoky."

Both women escaped and were treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital before being released.

The American Red Cross will currently shelter, clothe, and feed the women and their two dog heroes.
